2/27/25 This is Vacation

Other than some lingering sinus bullshit, my cold is gone! I have my energy, and if I am going to do some surfing this is the day. I made a walk down to the beach first thing. I am always up just before the sun, and out of the room between 7:30 and 8am. Down at the beach, I looked at the options, but I just was not feeling it. I thought perhaps I might feel it as the day went on. I know that it is going to be a learning process. I found my coffee, bagel, and did my morning writing.

Dave and Chris joined me on the roof patio around 11 and we discussed our morning plan. David and I decided we would check out the “Sketchy” Birria place. Chris was not interested in this place. Dave, and I made our way over there. There was a man working a flat top griddle, and he spoke good English. He took our orders. This place met my standards. I look for hygiene. The person cooking is not the person handling money. I did not find it that sketchy. Thy hygiene standards matched that of Magnus, and Bobbo’s outdoor kitchen at the Klickitat River. We ordered 3 each, and asked for them crispy. They were great. Maybe a bit fatty for my pallet, and that is odd. Typically, I I have a “fat tooth”…

We took a trip back to the lodging to regroup. David and I decided we would hike over to a beach called Los Muertos Beach. It is at the south end of town, and you pass through a cemetery on the way. It was a small beach. I drank a beer, and managed Dave’s valuables, while he took a dip in the ocean. One of the things I like about Mexico is the hot beaches. I love looking at hot beaches. They have big ones, small ones, long ones. Some are sandy, and some are rocky. The sandy beaches are pefered. I could look at hot beaches every day.

We made our way back, and soon spotted an open air bar top. I looked at Dave, and said, “Do you see what I see? God put this here for a reason.” We enjoyed a couple of Negras. I think it was around this time that I decided surfing could wait for another trip. Learning to surf will bring with it some frustration. I am an expert at getting frustrated. I am down for it, but not on this day. I just kicked a cold. This will be the last time I travel without a box of Pseudoephedrine in my kit. These days, I can go all year without getting sick. I dodged Covid many times. However, I have fought a cold on every single EuropTrip I have taken, except my 2023 trip to Ireland with Dave. I also did not take ill in Mexico last year….

I am only 45, and I am aging like a fine Helles Lager. I reckon we’ll be back next year. I am getting to the point where I am comfortable making this trip solo. I will try surfing next time. When it is time, I will be back and ready to try to surf.

Back at the rooftop patio I took a dip in the luxurious pool, and relaxed with my writing. Chris had a book, and David had a siesta. Dave eventually joined us with a book, our reading session progressed into a drinking session, and soon the banter overtook our other activities. After a bit, we were discussing food.

There is an open air grill near us. Apparently, last year it was called Mr. Rib. This year it is called Brasa Grill. I would call it an American Stye BBQ joint. However, barbecue comes from the indigenous folks of the Caribbean, and the Gulf of C.U.M. (Cuba, United States, and Mexico). Chris had an epic burger. Dave got a mixed plate with ribs, chicken, and sausage. I got a half rack of spicy bbq’d ribs. They were not that spicy. They were not as fatty, or as meaty as I am used to. There were delicious, and definitely enough food. I give it 1x Böner up, would repeat.

This was Chris’s last night. After a short trip down to our favorite beach bar, Bar Tola. We decided rooftop beers, and an early night was in order. I racked out at 10pm.

Today, (2/28/25) we travel down to PV for 2 nights. Then, on Sunday, we travel down to Yelapa for 5x nights.
